    Samuel Weston was the first school teacher at Brushgrove on the Clarence River. He was drowned in the wreck of the 'New England' steamship on the Clarence bar, Dec. 1882. P.L. (Percy) Weston was a lecturer at Queensland University and a consulting engineer. Charles Laseron was a member of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition, 1911-1914 under Douglas Mawson. Lloyd Rees was a painter who exhibited in London and America as well as Australia and was a multiple award winner. Joan Fraser wrote novels, short stories and poems under the name Amy Witting.
