  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Samuel Stutchbury (1798-1859), geologist and biologist was naturalist to the Pacific Pearl Fishery Co.'s comercial expedition to New South Wales and the Pacific Islands. He arrived in Sydney in Dec. 1825 in the Sir George Osborne and left for the Pacific Islands in the Rolla in March 1826. He rejoined the Sir George Osborne at Tahiti in January 1827 and returned to England. Bewtween 1850 and 1855 he was in Australia again workong as a geologist.
  • Scope and Content
    A day-by-day account of an 1820s South Seas trading venture, including visits to Sydney, the Bay of Islands and French Polynesia (Tuamotu Archipelago).
    This collection also includes photocopies of Stutchbury's journals, the originals of which are held in the Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington, NZ.
