  • Collection history
    This watercolour was offered in Sotheby's [London] Catalogue of Sporting Prints, Views and other coloured prints, 16 July 1963, Lot 127. It was part of seven lots, ‘the property of Mrs H.D. Banning’ a descendant of Mrs Elizabeth Paterson (1760?-1839), wife of soldier, explorer and lieutenant-governor, William Paterson (1755-1810). Australian art historian Rex Rienits purchased this painting along with Lot 126 `A View near Grose Head, New South Wales, 1809’ Reference: Anne-Maree Whitaker "Mrs Paterson's keepsakes: the provenance of some significant colonial documents and paintings", Journal of the Royal Australian Historical Society, vol.90, no.2. p.136-151.
  • Scope and Content
    Depicts the area of confluence of the Nepean, Hawkesbury and Grose Rivers. This junction marks the head water of the Hawkesbury River. It possibly depicts the Nepean River, very near its entrance to the Hawkesbury.
