• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  Two of the drawings, numbers 74-75, are initialled "TW". T. W. was possibly the Hobart merchant Thomas Le Mesurier Winter. Winter was involved in financing a sheep station in the Portland Bay district of Victoria from 1843 to 1845, and visited the area in the winter of 1843. • Scope and Content
  This album comprises seventy-seven sketches. The description below is transcribed from a listing in the artist's hand, pasted in the front of the album. The list is titled: Natives of Portland Bay district N.S.W. - 1843. Numbers 1-36 are thirty-four portraits of Aborigines of the Portland Bay district, N.S.W. (now Victoria) and two drawings of Aboriginal dwellings. Numbers 37-68 are chiefly views of Van Diemen's Land. Numbers 69-77 are not listed. The numbers appear below each drawing.
