Geoffrey Sherington (1945-) is a professor in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney. He has researched and published extensively on British child and youth migration to Australia.

The Child Emigration Society (later Fairbridge Society) was formed by Kingsley Ogilvie Fairbridge in 1912 with the aim of establishing a series of farm schools in parts of the British Empire for orphaned and underprivileged children.

The Big Brother Movement was a youth migration scheme based in Sydney. It aimed to bring youths from Britain to Australia to work on farms or in the Australian outback, with the cooperation of the Australian Immigration Department. The movement was founded by Sir Richard Linton in 1924.
