Jane Emily Atkinson was the daughter of Charlotte (nee Waring) and James Atkinson.

The portrait features the right profile of a young female with plaited hair. On the reverse are lines drawn in pencil and part of a female profile.

The handwritten caption and style of presentation (the upper edge of the drawing is affixed to card) is similar to other portraits from the same donor located at P2/368, 370-371.

Titled "Emily" in ink beneath image.

Believed by the donor to have been painted by the sitter's elder sister, Charlotte Elizabeth, before her marriage on 22 July 1847. For further information, see notes filed at PXn 836.
