    John Brady Nash (1857-1925), doctor and parliamentarian, was born at sea on his way to Australia with his Irish parents, Dr. Andrew Nash and his wife Margaret, nee Brady. The family first settled at Melbourne and his father later established a medical practice at Wallsend, Newcastle, NSW. Nash was educated by his father, then at St. Patrick's College, Melbourne, and at the University of Edinburgh where he graduated in medicine. He undertook postgraduate study at London, Dublin and Paris. He established a medical practice at Lambton, Newcastle, in 1883 and succeeded to his father's practice at Wallsend in 1885. He was an honorary surgeon at Newcastle Hospital and at Wallsend Hospital which he helped design. He moved to Sydney in 1900 at which time he became a member of the NSW Legislative Council, remaining a member until his death in 1925. Nash enlisted in the AIF, serving overseas as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Army Medical Corps from 1914 to 1916. Nash was a director of Sydney Hospital from 1904 to 1911 and of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital from 1917 to 1925. He was a member of the Board of Health from 1918 to 1919.[ref: Biographical Register of the NSW Parliament/Radi et al]
