  • General note

The work is unsigned and undated. The date and title are derived from two inscriptions on oval shaped backing papers accompanying the portrait. One inscription, in black ink, appears to be in John Oxley's hand (see Letters dated 31 January and 20 April 1823, ML Ref. A 1976, pp. 243-249, 279). The other note is a transcript of the first and written in pencil in a different hand.
For further information, see PXn 644.
The portrait was removed from the frame by SLNSW Preservation Staff at an unknown date.
Both the portrait and the frame bear evidence of damage and wear.
