Jabez King Heydon (1815-1855), printer and publisher, was born at Plymouth, England. Heydon married Sophia Hayes in 1834 and in 1838 he migrated to Sydney with his wife and two children. A futher eight children were born in Sydney. By 1843 Heydon was established as an auctioneer and agent at 78 King Street, Sydney. Two daughters and three sons of Jabez and Sophia Heydon survived infancy. Emily Eliza Heydon joined the Sisters of Charity; Catherine Heydon married Nathaniel Connolly; George R. Heydon (1845-1866) was the first Australian to enter the Marist Order; Charles Gilbert Heydon (1845-1932) was a barrister, judge, parliamentarian and attorney general; Louis Francis Heydon (1848-1918) was a solicitor and parliamentarian. Louis Francis Heydon was elected a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seat of Yass Plains (1882-1886) and appointed to the NSW Legislative Council (1889-1918). He was Minister for Justice from December 1885 to February 1886.[ref:ADB 1]
