Previously attributed to Conrad Martens by John Young see letter held at PXn 148. After an assessment by Keith R. Binney it is believed to have been painted by Thomas Balcombe. This work has been compared to his similar works including one held in the Mitchell Library `Mr E.H. Hargraves, the gold discoverer of Australia, Feb 12th 1851' at ML 532 . - Date note
