    Alicia Radford, also known as Alice, married Archibald McClatchie at Stoke Fleming, Devonshire on 11 November, 1851. Her mother was Maria Radford (b. 1810) who had married A.B. (Alexander Brodie) Spark (1792-1856) on 27 April 1840.

    Probably Alicia Radford, 1848 / portrait attributed to William Nicholas
    5.8 x 4.1 cm. (sight) ; 15 x 13.7 cm. (frame)

    The female in this portrait wears a black satin off-the-shoulder dress, Medieval revival style, with a black net or lace ribbon edge that draws neckline inwards. A morning brooch is fastened to the centre front of the dress and a fob or muff chain is visible around her neck.

    This work is not signed, titled, or dated. Believed to be a portrait of Alicia Radford by William Nicholas. In his diary A.B. Spark records Alcia sitting for Mr Nichoals on 20 and 22 April 1848; on 25 April 1848 he records the purchase of a portrait of Alicia from Mr Nicholas for 3 guineas.

    The boy in this portrait wears a blue "skeleton" suit jacket with brass buttons and a wide white collar.

    This work is not signed, titled, or dated. The donor believed that the subject of this portrait was a boy named "Robert", a Radford family member.

    These miniatures are stored in black rectangular wooden frames, with glass front, gilt inner border, and marbled card backing. Two metal eyelets are places on the sides of the frame to assist in hanging.

    MIN 243
    During treatment by the State Library of NSW Preservation Branch, the inner matt border was replaced and the marbled backing card removed. The backing card is stored with the miniature.
