  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

John Antill's ballet 'Corroboree' was first performed in 1946 in the form of an abbreviated concert suite at the Sydney Town Hall, conducted by Eugene Goossens. Later that year, Goossens gave 'Corroboree' its London orchestral premiere at the Royal Albert Hall. Plans to produce the first performance of the complete ballet at Covent Garden were not realised. The world premiere of the staged ballet was given at Sydney's Empire Theatre in July 1950, to great acclaim. Choreographed by Rex Reid, with stage designs by William Constable, costume designs by Robin Lovejoy and stage lighting by John Clugston, the work was performed by the Melbourne-based National Theatre Ballet and members of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer.
