    Drawings - 1 watercolour drawing on ivory miniature encased in wooden rectangular frame with oval window at front with glass cover and raised metal rim. At the top centre of the frame is a metal clasp shaped like an acorn with leaves and a loop for hanging. Accompanying the miniature is a draw-string chamois bag two internal pockets, red wool braid trim, and printed initials "R.D" on both sides. - 6.7 x 5.3 cm. (image, sight) ; 15 x 10.5 cm. (frame, including loop) ; 16.4 x 12.2 cm. (bag) ; 13.7 cm. (handle, approx.)
  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    James Erskine, born in Ireland, served in the army in India, Ireland, and the Peninsular campaigns before arriving in Australia in 1817. Erskine was appointed Lieut-Governor from 1817-1819, advising Governor Lachlan Macquarie on the controversay between George Molle and D'Arcy Wentworth. -- Reference: Australian Dictionary of Biography.
