Watercolour and miniature painter, Mary Hindmarsh (1817-1887), was the youngest daughter of the first governor of South Australia, Sir John Hindmarsh. In 1840, Mary married the colonial secretary (her former drawing teacher) George Milner Stephen.

The date and attribution of this print is based on another copy located in Wilkinson family - collection of drawings and prints, 1835-1913 (PXA 6923 vol.1 No.23)
