  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The author of this work, known by his initials, V.W.T., was a chaplain in the Royal Australian Navy serving on H.M.A.S. Adelaide and H.M.A.S Penguin.
Garden Island is a naval base in Sydney Harbour.
  • Scope and Content
In his introduction the author states that he set out specifically to write a brief history of Garden Island, but found so many things of naval interest not generally known that he decided to extend the scope of the story. The resulting work, which begins with the arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney Harbour, is in two volumes and includes an extensive appendix containing transcriptions of official correspondence and other documents relating to the establishment of the Naval Depot on Garden Island.
