Lucy Cassidy and her husband, the journalist Robert J. Cassidy (who wrote bush ballads under the name of 'Gilrooney'), were close friends of Henry Lawson. After his death she organised pilgrimages to his grave and was instrumental in the issue of the Henry Lawson commemorative stamp. She helped found the Fellowship of Australian Writers and was its Publicity Officer and Treasurer during the 1930s. - Scope and Content1 January 1958; Certificate appointing Lucy Maria Cassidy an ordinary member of the Civil Division of the Order of the British Empire. Signed by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in facsimile with a blind stamp of the 'Seal of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' in upper left corner. Also included is the original envelope in which the certificate was sent to Mrs Cassidy.
