    Elsa Stralia, born Elsa Fischer, studied singing with Elise Wiedermann and Lily Slapoffski at the Marshall-Hall Conservatorium, Melb. before leaving for Europe in 1910. She studied with Mathilde Marchesi and sang in Beecham's Covent Garden opera season in 1913 and later at La Scala. On her Sydney debut she received a floral representation of the ladder of fame from Galli-Curci.
