• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  Helenus Scott and his brother Robert bred race horses on their property at Glendon, throughout the 1830's and 1840's. The winner's prize money for a horse race was kept in a purse that was embroidered by women. -- Reference: Hearth and home : women's decorative arts and crafts 1800-1930 / Ann Toy ... • Scope and Content
  a. Ribbon, cream coloured with image of wattle flowers and printed text, "With Horden Bros. / Compliments / Wattle Day", ca. 1900-1920
  b. Racing Purse, drawstring, made of cotton, bristol board, and cardboard. The main section of the purse is crocheted gold-brown coloured cotton with a tassel fringe attached to the outside edge. Embroidered onto bristol board that is sewn to the lower section of the purse is "Ladies / Purse / 1844 / 'Rome' / 25 June" on one side, and "Jockey / Club" on opposite side. Three edges of the purse have a cream coloured ribbon.
  c. Racing Purse, satin[?], bristol board, and cardboard. Oval shaped purse made of cream stain with six triangular shaped points around opening to emulate flower petals, ribbon cord for closing draw-string, and panel at lower section that has embroidered text ""Ladies Purse / xx / 1842" and one side and on reverse "Jockey Club / *"
  d. Racing Purse, cotton. Navy blue velvet purse, oval shaped, lined in cream satin, and edged in yellow rope trim that forms two cord handles at the top. The sides of the purse have yellow-gold tassels each with six chenille stems. Embroidered in gold thread on one side, "The / Ladies / Purse", and on reverse, "Homebush / 184.[?]"
  e. Racing purse, satin brocade and card. Oval shaped purse made of pale blue-green patterned material, with cream inner boarder and ribbon drawstring for closing. Centre panel is made from a card (that has subsequently come loose) with text, "Ladies / Purse / 1837"
  f. Letter organiser, with "Unanswered letters" embroidered onto rectangular shaped Bristol card with alternate blue-black and red cotton that is backed with ribbon and fastens with an elastic band stitched to sides.
  g. Souvenir ribbon, with picture of two flags and man on horse, and printed blue text, "'Good Bye Boys, / Good Luck.' / Souvenir, / January, 1900. / Registered, Watts & Co." Attached to the ribbon by a metal pin was a handwritten note, "For strongest feet may slip in blood. Do unto others as ye will be done by. For this is the land of the Prophets"
