ML 1002 titled from a handwritten inscription on a piece of paper found affixed to verso. This piece of paper later went missing, probably during restoration work in 1966 and well before the Library's acquisition of the painting in 1990

Unsigned, however the paintings have been known to Greenway family members since the 1860s as Greenway's work. Betsy Greenway, great-great niece of Francis Greenway, inherited the paintings. She bequeathed them to her grandson Richard Young. He sold them to Professor Douglas Jones, from whom the Library purchased them. Comparison of the handwriting on verso with Greenway's shows the hands to be similar.
