  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Scottish born David Ramsay was a medical practitioner, merchant, and amateur naturalists, who established the import-export business known as Raine & Ramsay in Sydney 1823. Following the dissolve of this partnership with Raine in 1828, Ramsay acquired pastoral land at Fish River and a plant nursery at Dobroyd farm. In 1825 he married Sarah Ann Lord who was the eldest daughter of Simeon Lord. Sarah and David Ramsay had ten children, including the noted ornithologist Edward Ramsay. -- Reference: Australian Dictionary of Biography. Vol.2, 1788-1850.
