  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The first probation station for convicts at the colonial penal establishment at Port Arthur, Tasmania was built at Saltwater River in 1841.
  • Scope and Content
    1 Jan. 1866 - Mar. 1867; Each page of this volume is headed with the name of a convict and the ship he arrived on, with entries for each week within each month that document employment, class, amount of work performed, conduct, industry, signature of officer in charge, and earnings letter. At the front of the volume is a memorandum giving instructions for the officer and constable in charge of the gangs to observe aspects of men's behaviour that are listed.
