The format indicates that the piece is an early opalotype that employs an unconventional means of transferring the image onto the surface. It is a keepsafe for remembering the subject after her death. -- Reference: Curator of Photographs, June 2004.
The portrait is currently stored with a non-comtemporaneous frame that consists of pale blue velvet backing and mount, and cream coloured painted wooden frame.
