    The sitter of these portraits wears a black taffeta dress featuring a` desposition (layered or flounced) skirt, sheer gauze undersleeve, and chemise visible at neckline.

  • General note

    The ambrotypes are of Eleanor Stephen and were taken on the same day at an unknown studio (possibly Dalton). The portraits differ in format, one being smaller than the other, and are stored in cases of different size and ornament.

    The photographs, particularly MIN 203 that shows the shirt of the subject, appear to be the basis of a miniature portrait of Eleanor Stephen, located at MIN 206.
