    Mary Anne Severn (nee Stephen) was the ninth child of Sir Alfred Stephen and his second wife Eleanor -- Reference: Think of Stephen : a family chronicle / by R. Bedford. Sydney : Angus and Robertson, 1954.

    The subject of this portrait stands beside a dressing table with a mirror. She is dressed in a white broderie anglaise dress that has a pink sash at the waist and pink ribbons at the shoulders, and wears black satin shoes with overties and squared toes. Underneath the dress is a crinoline (petticoat) and pink slip.
