  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

From 1988 to 1990, Tiedemann worked for Fairfax Press as an information graphics artist at The Sydney Morning Herald. Following this appointment, he moved to the Financial Review where he worked on graphics and produced a weekly illustration. Between 1993 and 1998, Tiedemann was employed as an illustrator for the Canberra Times for all sections of the paper including editorial, business, features, and sport. Initially using technical pens for black and white illustration, Tiedemann was inspired by the work of John Spooner of the Melbourne Age to use watercolour. With the use of colour printing presses by print media, Tiedemann's work was increasingly reproduced in colour. From Nov. 1998, Tiedemann has produced illustrations for several bodies and papers including News Limited (The Australian, The Daily Telegraph, and The Sunday Telegraph), the Bulletin magazine, and Money magazine. In 2000, Tiedemann won a Stanley Award for General Illustration. -- Reference: ML 719/99 (Biographical notes provided by the artist).
