    Nos. 6-7. Agnes Baly is identified from two carte de visite photographs donated by Mrs H. Connor in Sept. 1953 (formerly located at P1/Baly). An inscription on the reverese of No.6 relates that Agnes Baly was the daughter of Marie Antoinette Rattray (nee Allan).

    No. 11. Biographical information on John Richard Booth, supplied by Beatrice Booth in 1975, is located at PXn 949.

    The occupation and business address of Mr McManus is given as wheelwright, Hunter Street, Parramatta.
  • General note

    This collection features studio portraits, mainly by Burgin, of people standing beside furniture or seated. The images that do not bear a photographer's stamp originate from Burgin's studio as demonstrated by the backdrops and studio furniture used.

    A collection of glass plate negatives from the Parramatta studio of Burgin, are located at Mitchell Library call no. ON 58. Some of these negatives correspond with the portraits in this collection. These include: PXA 1036/86 with ON58/34 ; PXA 1036/87 with ON58/33 ; PXA 1036/115 with ON58/42.

    Numbers 121-123 transferred from PXA 2144/Box 5/nos. 47-49 in February 2020.
  • Signatures / Inscriptions

    Some bear photographer's stamp on reverse. Different examples of Burgin's (father & son) photographer's stamp are represented in this collection.

    Many are identified on reverse by a pencil handwritten inscription.

    No. 40 previously had James identified as Jason

    No. 61 is cracked through the centre.
