Ishmael Ngatu was a leading figure in Morovo Lagoon, Western Solomon Islands from 1914 until his death at about 70 years of age in 1955. Translations from Roviana to English were by various people including Rev E.C. Leadley, editor Rev G.G. Carter. The original diaries were kept in the Western Pacific Archives and have now been transferred to the Solomon Islands National Archives
