Sister Effie Harkness who followed her family's missionary tradition was a teacher with the Methodist Mission in the Solomon Islands from 1937 to 1957. When Sister Lina Jones retired in 1949, Sister Effie became the Senior Member of the Methodist Mission's teaching staff in the Solomon Islands - Scope and ContentIndex to diaries of Sister Effie Harkness, 1941-1957, compiled by Mrs Nancy Carter, together with entries from 18 volumes of Harkness's diaries dealing with her time in the Solomon Islands
