  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Educated at Cambridge University, Henry Maude worked as a civil servant from 1929-1948 in the Pacific Islands, in particular in the British colony of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands. From 1948-1957 he worked for the South Pacific Commission, following which he worked as a Research Fellow for the Australian National University Research School of Pacific Studies until 1971. He has published widely on aspects of Pacific Islands history and was a prime mover in the establishment of the Pacific Manuscripts Bureau. The bulk of his personal papers are held at the University of Adelaide Barr Smith Library
