These papers comprise the family records of Andrew Lisle Johnston (1912-1990), Mrs E.M. Johnston and their son Edgar Lisle Johnston (b. 1940). The collection includes: letters from native employees, various family papers, and a large collection of photographs including many of plantation life and work from 1935 to 1977

The contents are: 1. Sixty-five letters from native employees to A.L., E.L. or E.M. Johnston (81 pp.). The letters cover the period 1962 to 1977 and generally refer to employement on Sogeri Estate or to problems which needed the assistance of the Johnston family. 2. A.L. Johnston's papers and autobiographical memos. 3. Johnston family papers. 4. Miscellaneous material (88 p.). 5. "Sogerinumu", the magazine of the Sogeri high school (1966-1967). 6. Johnston family photographs and maps of the environs of Sogeri. 7. Four hundred and eighty photographs dealing with Sogeri (1935-1990)
