The Tangoa Training Institution was established by the Presbyterian Mission to the New Hebrides in 1895 as training centre for New Hebridean teachers. The institution was generally known by its initials, TTI, and this led to some confusion as to what the letters stood for. The title pages of the present minute books give the name as Teachers' Training Institute. The establishment was also known as Tangoa Training Institute. Tangoa is a small island off the south coast of Espiritu Santo
