These documents originally formed part of the archives of the Samoan District Committee and later Samoan District Council of the London Missionary Society, and were latterly held at Malua, Western Samoa. The Samoan District Committee was replaced by the Council in 1928. In 1970, it was decided to transfer the documents to the archives of the Congregational Council for World Mission (formerly London Missionary Society) in London. In transit through Canberra, they were microfilmed by the Pacific Manuscripts Bureau
