  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Philip Gidley King was the son of Phillip Parker King with whom he sailed on HMS Adventure to survey the southern coast of South America 1826-30. In 1831 he joined HMS Beagle as a midshipman and again sailed to South America to continue the survey. He maintained an interest in marine surveying throughout his life and in 1891 published Comments on Cook's Log (HMS Endeavour, 1770) with Extracts, Charts and Sketches.
