  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Born in Melbourne in 1888, Canon Horace William Alexander Barder took his Bachelor of Arts degree at Sydney University in 1914. He graduated Master of Arts in 1916, and was ordained to the priesthood in 1917.

    From 1918-1919 he was chaplain at Holsworthy Military Camp, and from 1919-1921 chaplain at No. 4 A.G.H., Randwick.

    He held a number of appointments, including Parish of Kurrajong (1920), St. Cuthbert's, Naremburn (1922), All Saints, Parramatta (1924), Parish of St. Michael, Rose Bay and Vaucluse (1927), Honorary Canon of St. Andrew's Cathedral, Sydney (1936), Chaplain, 4th Class (1937), St. Mark's Rectory, Darling Point (1938), and the Rural Deanery of East Sydney (1942).

    1943-1946 Barder was the chairman of the board of directors of St. Luke's Hospital.

    He had two daughters, Helen and Diana, and a son Dr. Kenneth Barder.
