  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The India Office was set up in 1859 and was disbanded when India, Pakistan and Ceylon gained their independence in 1947. The Library holds the records of the East India Company (from its inception in 1600) and the India Office, as well as many private collections relating to South and South East Asia. The India Office Library amalgamated with the British Library in 1982.
  • Scope and Content
    1. M 1620: Contains ships logs, for the ships: Coromandel (1801-1803), Royal Admiral (1792-1802) and Warren Hastings (1787-1788).
    2. M 1621: Contains ships logs for the ships: Ganges (1781-1785), Sovereign (1795-1797), Bellona (1792-1794), Prince of Wales (1796-1797).
    3. M 1622: Contains ships logs for the ships: Young William (1794-1796), Resolution (1778-1785), Warwick (1759-1762).
    4. M 1623: Contains ships logs for the ships: Ceres (1795-1797), Minerva (1798-1801), Hercules (1801-1803), Canada (1801-1803), Nile (1801-1802).
    5. M 1624: Contains ships logs for the ships: Minorca (1801-1803), Friendship (1800-1801), Duff (1796-1798), Barwell (1797-1799).
    6. M 1625: Contains ships logs for the ships: Atlas I (1801-1803), Atlas II (1801-1804), Marquis of Wellington (1814-1816), Henry Porcher (1825-1826), Guildford (1811-1812). 7. M 1626: Contains ships logs for the ships: England (1826-1827), Alexander (1801-1803), Providence (1810-1812), William Pitt (1805-1807).
    8. M 1627: Contains ships logs for the ships: Ocean (1803-1805), General Graham (1811-1813), Mary (1811-1813), Rolla (1802-1804), Perseus (1801-1802) and Indefatigable (1812-1814).
