    CORRESPONDENCE
    Letters received by D.S. Mitchell from various sources that relate primarily to the acquisition of books, manuscripts, and pictorial material (ordering, purchase, and shipment), advice sought regarding matters of history, and the establishment of a Public Library of New South Wales. Includes letter written to Miss Rusden from D.S. Mitchell, 12 Feb. 1844; Mary Harpur's offer of letters her husband Charles received from H. Kendall, July 1895; and correspondence from the National Art Gallery of N.S.W. regarding the loan of Brierly paintings for the Art Loan Exhibition of 1897.

  • General note

    The material in this volume is largely derived from D.S. Mitchell but appears to be an artificial series containing documents that postdate his death and items from various sources.
    This volume was bound in 1920 in half red morocco, cloth sides, with gold vein marble paper ends. The spine is decorated with leaves and waratah and wattle flowers, hand tooled by F. Heyner.
    Another copy of the photograph Cumberland Place is located at SPF/388.
