    Thomas Livingstone Mitchell, the colony's fourth Surveyor-General, journeyed to the area between the Castlereagh and Gwydir Rivers in search of the Kindur River that purportedly flowed inland to the north-west of New South Wales.   • Scope and Content
    1831-1832; Journal of an expedition to the interior [of New South Wales] through the Liverpool Plains. Describes outset of the journey from Greenwood; waiting for Major Mitchell, the Surveyor General; nature of the exploring party and provisions; weather conditions; landscape traversed; places of encampment; daily activities; taking of measurements and time; contact with Aborigines [Kamilaroi people]; the search for water and hunting and fishing for food; and provides Indigenous names for places and some objects. Includes encounter with an Aboriginal woman on 19th December 1831 and incident on 29th December 1831 where boats become damaged whilst surveying the River Kindur [or Kindiur or Kindeur]. At the back of the volume are lunar distance measurements as well as latitude and altitude calculations. (Call No.: CY 527 )
