    Sir James Hill born at Harden, son of William Hill, wool merchant. 1875 joined business venture, 1891 established own business, importing wool, adding woolcombing, topmaking. Leading textile magnate of era, owned newspapers, held public office as mayor and MP of Bradford. His sons Albert Hill and Arthur James Hill given partnership, 1922 firm incorporated. Two firms, Sir James Hill & Sons (Australia) Ltd & Sir James Hill (New Zealand), created 1949 to act as buying agents. Formerly carried out by N. Hill in Melbourne and H. & R.H. Hill in New Zealand. 1968 Australian Company amalgamated with Booth Hill & Sons
