- Scope and ContentAlexander Turner was a passenger on the ship Eastern Monarch on a voyage from Glasgow to Townsville, via the Cape of Good Hope and Tasmania, July-Oct. 1883. The diary covers the voyage and the week or so after the ship reached Townsville, when the emigrants were forced to stay at Magnetic Island on account of an epidemic
