    Subjects of correspondence include recruiting in Ireland 1918; command of the A.I.F. 1918; impressions of the Dutch in Java, the Malay States and the Straits Settlements; the British claim to German colonies 1918; the coal strike in New Zealand; the Labor Party; conscription referendums; trade; the Irish in New Zealand and Australia; the Pacific Islands; Transcontinental railway; land settlement in New Zealand; Hobart's defences; the German influence in Fiji; and on tax and trade. The 1917 Imperial War Conference is the subject of many papers. There are many letters to and from W.M. Hughes
