    Anthropologist. In 1908 and 1909 he undertook research work in the Solomon Island. He spent much of the latter part of his life working on a comprehensive account of the culture of the Mono-Alu people. Mono and Alu are islands of the Bougainville Strait, Western Solomon Islands
  • Scope and Content
    Incomplete typescript draft of the Mono-Alu people of Bougainville Strait containing detailed descriptions of various aspects of their culture such as kinship, religion marriage, ownership and death rites. Many of Wheeler's statements are supported by verbatim quotations in the vernacular language together with translations. Includes a contents list and glossary of the Mono-Alu language. Notes and correspondence 1953-54 of George B. Milner of the University of London with Mrs Wheeler and the Royal Anthropological Institute relating to his work on the Wheeler papers
