Formed in London in 1824 to develop land in N.E.Tasmania by encouraging immigrants to farm the land. Involved in exploration, agriculture and commerce from 1825 to the 1950s. The Chief Agents of the Company to 1900 were Edward Curr, James Gibson, Charles Nichols and James William Norton Smith

Minutes, correspondence, invoices, account books, maps, sketches, conveyances and other records of the Van Diemen' s Land Company. Also includes records of the Emu Bay to Mount Bischoff Railway Company, 1841-1885 and other subsidiary companies
