    Entries record voyages on the Maudon from Melbourne to Western Australia, and to the camp at Yeeda, near Derby on the Fitzroy River. Comments on employment labouring and shearing for the Murray Squatting Company and the Kimberley Pastoral Company; vegetation, Aborigines; climate and a journey along the Fitzroy River. Among the entries for the period 9-18 Dec. 1882 is a brief note recording the killing of Anthony Cornish by an Aborigine. Interspersed among the diary entries are jottings, including financial accounts, poems and aboriginal vocabulary
