  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Bishop Samuel Edward Marsden (1832-1912) was the first grandson of Reverend Samuel Marsden. He was the first Anglican Bishop of Bathurst and the first Australian-born bishop. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge and in 1869 was consecrated Bishop of Bathurst. In 1885 he resigned the see and went to live in England, finally settling in Bristol

    (1) Correspondence, 1842-1906, including letters to Bishop S.E. Marsden; letters, 1842-1889, from Marsden to his mother and sister, and miscellaneous letters, 1848-1855. (2) Miscellaneous material, 1869-1885, including addresses from parishioners and others; newscuttings, 1869-1885, relating to Bishop Marsden and his Diocese. (3) Letters and papers, 1882-1886, concerning Dr. John T. Marriott. (4) Letters, 1882-1886, to Bishop Marsden from clergymen in Australia.
