Anglican clergyman, missionary, farmer and sheepbreeder. Arrived in Australia in 1794 as assistant to the Chaplain of the Colony

(1) Notes concerning a biography of Samuel Marsden, including copies of certificates and notes on his life by his family. (2) Correspondence, including letters from Marsden to family and friends 1810-1837, from his son Charles Simeon Marsden to Jane and Samuel Edward Marsden 1851-1864, from John Marsden and John Henry Challis 1839-1864 concerning family estates, and miscellaneous family letters 1819-1876. (3) Legal documents and accounts 1802-1902, including wills and documents concerning Marsden properties. (4) Literary pieces including a manuscript by Marsden and an essay about his work in New Zealand. (5) Newspaper cuttings concerning Marsden and monuments to him in Australia and New Zealand. (6) Pamphlets and leaflets. (7) Personal effects including a diary 1827, possibly by John Marsden. (8) Portraits, photographs of Marsden and his family, Bathurst and the Bay of Islands. (9) Handwritten drafts of Marsden's sermons.
