    Irish insurgent and New South Wales settler. Dwyer participated in the Irish insurrection of 1798 with Joseph Holt and in 1803 in Robert Emmett's insurrection. In 1805 Dwyer, with others, was allowed to exile himself for life to New South Wales to avoid being brought to trial. He was granted land at Cabramatta, Sydney, in 1809 and was later appointed chief constable at Liverpool, an office he held for about eleven years
  • Scope and Content
    (1) Approx. 400pp. of notes relating to the life of Michael Dwyer and events in 1798, written by Brother Luke Cullen, a monk of Clondalkin, near Dublin. They are written in a volume which also contains entries for the Clondalkin School roll, c.1816-1825. (2) Notes, drafts and cuttings compiled by J. Cyril M. Weale, ca.1900, towards a study of Michael Dwyer.
