Govenor of New South Wales Feb. 1924 to Apr. 1930. His term of Governor of New South Wales was highlighted by his clash with the Labor Party and J.T. Lang in 1926 which led to an examination of the powers of the state governors in Australia

Two typescript volumes 1924-30, containing reminiscences of his time as Governor of New South Wales. They describe vice-regal life from a personal point of view and include a section on the constitutional struggle initiated by J.T. Lang to abolish the Legislative Council. Descriptions of social life and entertainment at Government House and his visits to various parts of New South Wales are contained in the journals. The last section records his voyage back to England via Singapore, Japan and China and his reception in London
