  • Scope and Content
    Correspondence to the Treasury Board from other government agencies, the colonies, and from individuals. Papers include: arrangements for the foundation of the penal colony in New South Wales, despatch of the First Fleet, and the Australian and Antarctic expeditions. Topics range from banking to postal and telegraph matters, whaling and fisheries. The class of records includes papers, 1793-1794, relating to Aboriginal Australians, e.g. Bennelong & others: T.1/733, documents 511, 2124, 2238, 2366, and T.1/735, document 2711 (PRO 3555-3556). See also T.1/2315 (PRO 4665): clothes for Female Natives at NSW, 1824.
    The T.1 series also includes papers relating to the convict hulks or prison ships, 1783-1803, in T.1/587-901 (PRO 3549-3560). Includes a detailed statement of costs and various returns of prisoners on board hulks awaiting transportation. The latter hulk returns of prisoners record: name, age, when & where convicted, sentence, and occasionally the state of health and when & where discharged.
