    Hazel Namatjira was the daughter of Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira.
    At the time the letters were written Helen Schlenk was a child at Sunday School. She was allotted Hazel Namatjira from a Centralian Mission School as a pen friend.
  • Scope and Content
    9 December 1943-6 December 1946, undated; Seven letters from Hazel Namatjira to Hazel Schlenk. Six are in English and one in an Aboriginal language with translation attached. The letters were written from Hermannsburg Mission at Alice Springs, Immanuel Girls Hostel at North Walkerville and Immanuel College at North Walkerville. A photograph of Hazel Namatjira with three friends accompanied one of the letters.
