    C.J. Dennis is best known for his verse story The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke, published in 1915. Later works included The Moods of Ginger Mick (1916) and The Glugs of Gosh (1917).
    Hal Gye was the illustrator of the original 1915 edition of The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke. He also wrote short stories for the Bulletin under the name of James Hackston and poems under the name of Hacko.
  • Scope and Content
    Harry Chaplin's own (unnumbered copy), published in 1980 for private distribution only in an edition limited to 100 copies. This copy has much additional original material, most of it poems and letters by Gye generally under his pseudonyms of James Hackston and Hacko. Also included are pen and pencil drawings (including caricatures of Dennis and Gye) by Gye, bookplates and photographs. Subjects of the photographs include Hal Gye, C.J. Dennis' home 'Arden' at Toolangi and his grave at Box Hill.
